Forgotten Grapes Pack

An exciting package featuring some of Spain’s lesser-known grape varieties and regions. These three wines come from areas that are either lesser known or made with hard-to-find varieties. This pack is perfect for those seeking well-made, characterful wines produced using traditional methods.

Tentenublo Blanco 2021: While white Rioja has been growing in popularity, it is often made using only the region’s flagship grape, Viura. However, Roberto Oliván embraces ancestral varieties to preserve old vine material, including Alarije Riojano and Jaén Blanca. With 20% skin fermentation and 100% aging in concrete, the result is a generous and expressive wine that’s equally worth drinking now or cellaring for later.

Consuelo 2020: From the Ribera del Duero area, though classified under the broader Castilla y León region, this wine is made from the ancient Albillo grape, a known parent of the famous Tempranillo variety. Grown in harsh conditions, Albillo is known for producing low-acidity wines. Alfredo Maestro harvests early and lets the skins ferment with the juice for seven days. The result is a clean, layered wine with nutty notes and plenty of stone fruit flavors—one of our favorites for food pairings!

Pyjama Mencía 2021: Hailing from the relatively unknown Bierzo region, a gem that has sparked a revival in demand for the Mencía grape among sommeliers and wine lovers alike. Bierzo boasts a high proportion of old vines, averaging 60 years old—some of the oldest in any wine region! This wine is made by Nacho León of Demencia Wines, one of our smallest producers, and punches well above its weight. His entry-level wine is made from grapes selected from plots throughout the region and aged in used barrels for 12 months. It’s soft and silky, with the fresh, crisp backbone that Mencía is known for.
