About the Wine

El Marciano
Alfredo Maestro, Castilla y Leon, Red Wine

This Garnacha, grown in the Sierra de Gredos, near Madrid, is a true embodiment of the region's charm and altitude. Located at an impressive height of 1,150 meters, the 70-year-old vineyards contribute to the wine's flavorful, yet subdued profile.

The unique granite mother rock foundation, coupled with a sandy topsoil, is responsible for the wine's aromatic and light qualities. When it's time for harvest, the grapes are handpicked. Alfredo's technique involves destemming 80% of the grapes, leaving the remaining 20% intact to introduce freshness.

Alfredo's commitment to authenticity shines through in his winemaking approach. With fermentation and storage both taking place in 1,500-liter stainless steel tanks, there's a clear emphasis on letting the grape's natural character lead the way. A gentle maceration process lasting 20 days with just one daily remontage ensures the wine retains its innate essence. Moreover, by forgoing any stabilizing or clarifying agents and allowing the wine to settle in winter's embrace, the wine remains as unadulterated as possible.

In essence, this Garnacha is fruit-forward, refined, and versatile. Alfredo suggests enjoying it amidst the relaxed ambiance of a BBQ or paired with a variety of tapas, echoing its adaptability and charm.
