About the Wine

Teira X 2023
Manuel Formigo, Ribeiro, White Wine

Teira X represents the premium offering from Finca Teira, embodying the traditional winemaking style of Ribeiro—a historic region with a challenging maritime climate. This area sees plenty of rain and is prone to diseases, making winemaking a difficult task for even the larger producers. Despite these challenges, winemaking in Ribeiro remains very traditional, as landholding is still fragmented and small-scale. The grape varieties planted here must be highly resilient to thrive in such damp conditions. In the old tradition, vineyards are planted with mixed grape varieties, serving as insurance to ensure some grapes always ripen, no matter what challenges each year brings.

Teira X comes from a single vineyard, Miñoteira, a 1.5-hectare site with poor, loose granite soils. The backbone of the wine is the highly underrated Spanish grape Treixadura, making up 55% of the blend. Treixadura is a vigorous and productive variety, but for quality, yields need to be kept low. Manuel’s Treixadura vines, which are over 40 years old, naturally produce lower yields. The rest of the blend includes Albilla, Albariño, and Loureira, each contributing 15% to the final wine.

The grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed to extract the finest juice. Fermentation, lasting 15 days, takes place in stainless steel, where the wine is also aged, resulting in a crisp and highly aromatic expression of Ribeiro’s tradition.
