About the Wine
Gspusi Mexicano Zweigelt
MAD Wines, Kremstal, Red Wine
Gspusi Mexicano is a wine made by friends from different corners of Mexico and Austria. David from Innsbruck, Melissa from Gmunden, and Alonso from Puebla came together to create something simple, joyful and easy to share. This isn’t about winemaking statements or trends. It’s about making something we genuinely enjoy drinking together. A wine that fits around the table without taking the spotlight. The conversations, the company, the moments shared; those are the main characters. The wine just supports them, glass after glass.
Vineyard and Viticulture
The fruit comes from Holzgasse, a small vineyard in Krems planted on loess soils topped with gravel left by the ancient Danube. This mix gives freshness and a gentle mineral touch to the grapes. Farming is done carefully and by hand, following organic practices. The approach in the vineyard is low-intervention and respectful, letting the site do the work.
Winemaking
Zweigelt grapes were harvested by hand and fermented on skins for seven days to extract color and texture. After pressing, the wine aged for six months in a 225-liter American oak barrel that had previously held Rioja. It was then transferred to stainless steel to rest and settle before bottling. No additives, no fining or filtration. Just a direct and playful expression of the grape, meant to be drunk chilled and with friends.
Additional Notes
Gspusi is an Austrian word for a fling. Not a serious relationship, just a playful connection. This project is exactly that. It says on the label “Das ist kein Rosado” because it’s not a rosé and not quite a red either. It’s somewhere in between. Chillable, bright and meant for good times.
