Memòria Brut Nature 2018 combines Xarel·lo and Macabeu grapes, aged meticulously for over 60 months. This wine reflects the Can Descregut commitment to excellence, with a prolonged lees aging that enhances its complexity and richness. The grapes are sourced from old, organically managed vineyards, contributing to the wine’s distinct and mature character.
The blend consists of 60% Xarel·lo and 40% Macabeu, sourced from the “La Pineda” estate. The grapes come from two old vineyards: Puput (Xarel·lo), planted in 1967, and Socarrada (Macabeu), planted in 1976. The vineyards are situated on clay-limestone soils with a presence of chalk, contributing to the wine’s unique character.
The vineyards are managed organically, certified by the CCPAE (The Catalan Council of Organic Farming). The focus is on respecting biodiversity and the environment, utilizing only natural organic fertilizers and avoiding herbicides or insecticides.
Grapes are harvested by hand to avoid premature oxidation before pressing. The winemaking process involves very soft pressing and natural settling for 24 hours, followed by controlled fermentation in stainless steel with wild yeast. The base wine is aged on fine lees for 8 months and naturally stabilized during winter in stainless steel tanks.
Tirage (bottling) took place in April 2019, and the wine aged on lees for a minimum of 60 months. Disgorgement is performed according to demand without the addition of sugars, ensuring the freshest possible product. The disgorgement date is indicated on the back label of each bottle.
Memòria Brut Nature 2018 presents an amber yellow color with a persistent stream of fine bubbles. The nose reveals notes of dry fruit, toast, and mature fruit from the extended aging. On the palate, it is initially fruity, with a creamy texture thanks to its long aging, balanced acidity, and a fresh, dry finish.
