Demencia Godello is the flagship white wine of Nacho Leon, crafted from vines that are over a century old. The Fuente de San Làzaro vineyard, where Demencia owns 2 hectares, is home to a diverse range of grape varieties, in keeping with traditional planting practices.

The vineyard boasts a density of 4,200 plants per hectare on loamy clay soil. South-facing and located at an altitude of 600 meters, the vines enjoy sunlight from dawn until dusk. The Cotelo mountain safeguards the site from the valley's southern winds, creating a unique microclimate that offers protection from frosts and storms. This distinctive environment bestows the wine with a remarkable mouthfeel, pronounced fruit flavors, and a solid acidity backbone.

After being hand-harvested, the grapes are transported to the winery where they are destemmed and crushed. The berries are then allowed to macerate with their juice for two days, enhancing the wine's concentration and flavor intensity. The wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation over a span of 20 days using native yeasts. Nacho prefers to age a portion of his Godello in barrels, letting it rest on its lees without stirring for 5 months prior to bottling.

With a production of roughly 500 bottles, this unique wine is in short supply. It is complex and medium-bodied, devoid of the typical heaviness found in wines from warmer regions. Although it can mature for a few years, it's already a delightful gastronomic treat. We consider ourselves fortunate to have secured a few bottles for Austria!
